What is Model UN?

What Does A Model United Nations Club Do?
Model United Nations allows students to simulate the actions of the UN by debating current issues on the organization's agenda. Once a topic is chosen, each "delegate," or student, is assigned to a member country. Students conduct extensive research on their assigned country's opinion of and previous action on the topic at hand, using topic guides-- a brief summary of the history and explanation of the issue-- as starter points. Then, following the designated conduct of the actual UN, "mock models" are held, where students can openly debate the issue at hand as well as draft different resolutions to be voted on.

What Has The Bromfield Model United Nations Done?
Bromfield's Model United Nations club was founded back in 2008 by a group of sophomores with Bromfield's world geography teacher Ms. Bryce Mattie as adviser. In January of 2009, BMUN successfully attended the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, organized and run by Harvard University. Since then, the members of Bromfield Model UN have attended the HMUN Conference in 2010 and 2011. Bromfield has also sent members of the club to the National High School Model United Nations  (NHSMUN) Conference in March of 2011.

What Does BMUN Have Planned For The Future?
We are currently planning on sending twenty-five students to HMUN in January of 2012.  In addition, we are very excited to send seventeen of our members to the St. Petersburg International Model United Nations (SPIMUN) Conference in St. Petersburg, Russia, this coming March. SPIMUN will be the club's first international conference.
