Three Big Thank You's

Last Thursday we were lucky enough to host representitives from Harvard University's Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies who gave an extremely informative presentation on both the history and background of St. Petersburg. They provided a "what to expect" Q&A that gave us an opportunity to ask questions about traveling to the city and experiencing St. Petersburg culturally. It was a wonderful opportunity to be able to talk with others who had traveled to St. Petersburg and be reassured about all of our doubts (like the freezing weather!). We are very grateful to Cris, Beatrice, and Tom for giving the presentation!

Additionally, we recieved a $3000 grant from the  Harvard Schools Trust - a very generous sum that took a load of fundrasing on our shoulders. Thanks!

We also recieved donations from our first two sponsors (find their links on our sidebar). Thank you very much to Sorrento's Pizzeria and Murphy Insurance Agency! We are now just about  $900 away from reaching our fundraising goal.

Museum of Russian Icons

This past Saturday, SPIMUN was fortunate enough to visit the Museum of Russian Icons in Clinton, MA, and enjoy a personal tour from the museum's founder and curator, Gordon Lankton. It was the first of several "cultural immersion" events we have planned to prime ourselves for our Russian experience, and was extremely beneficial. The group learned the basics of what an icon is, as well as the different types and variations within them. Overall, the trip gave us a historical background on Russian religion which can only prove to be rewarding in our understanding of the country. A very big thanks to Mr. Lankton for the tour! It was wonderful to have such an educational experience so close to home.

Back row (L to R): Rhett Nuenighoff, Elizabeth Wilkey, founder & curator Mr. Gordon Lankton, Tola Myczkowska, Stephanie Reeves, Fiona Shea, Charlie Dorward, advisor Ms. Bryce Mattie. Front row: Your Humble Blogger (Rachel Fitterman), Bernadette Stadler, Mary Egan, Katie Chambers, Meghan Rooney, Kara Kennedy.

A New Year

Whew! After the holiday pie sale, BMUN has certainly had their hands full. We successfully split ourselves into teams and baked ten pies per pair in one afternoon (for a total of about 90 pies sold!), managing to bring our total funds raised to just over $2500.

However, we still have a long way to go, with about $3800 left to raise by the end of the month before our participation in SPIMUN can be finalized. With this prestigious goal comes prestigious initiatives, and with this we have a proposition for any local residents or businesses:

We are asking for sponsorships in the form of platinum, gold, silver and bronze donations. These donations will be addressed to Bromfield MUN, at the Bromfield School, and are thus tax deductible. Donors will be represented with an ad in the Harvard Post, a local newspaper, and receive their logo on T-shirts SPIMUN students will wear during the trip.
Donation Levels
Platinum: Donors at $500
Gold: Donors at $250
Silver: Donors at $100
Bronze: Donors at $50
Individual local residents:  $25
(we will include your name in lieu of an advertisement)

Links to the sponsors' websites will also be included on this blog in the sidebar to your right.

Any help is greatly appreciated and we thank you for your time and sponsorship consideration!
